Welcome to the Trust from
Mrs Angela Barry, Executive Principal
I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to the Woodland Academy Trust website as we are extremely proud, as a Trust family, of our accomplishments. Every member of staff who works within our four schools aspires to be the best they can be in order to ensure that our pupils receive a high quality education.
What’s our philosophy?
The core business of the Woodland Academy Trust is to ensure outstanding provision and outstanding outcomes for every child within our community. We aim to do this through:
· Developing the whole child to enable them to become
· Nurturing the strengths of the local community.
· Involving the extended family in the successful development of
our young people.
· All staff and the governing body sharing a clear understanding
that excellence is required at all times.
· Creating a stimulating and engaging environment which
generates excitement in coming to school.
Geographically the Woodland Academy Trust is situated in the North area of the London Borough of Bexley and within Greenhithe. We are a group of four primary schools, Knockhall, Northumberland Heath, Peareswood and Willow Bank Primary Schools, who work closely together across a range of joint activities to strategically coordinate, share and organise resources and ideas enabling the dissemination of good practice whilst ensuring continuous, and sustained, improvement. Although we work as a Trust family, each school has its own strategically targeted School Improvement Plan that meets the needs of that school.
In order to support our work, the Trust actively engages in strategic partnerships, thereby creating wider networks to support children and their families. Currently, two of our main strategic partnerships are with an external School Improvement Provider, Hackney Learning Trust and the New Horizons Teaching Schools Alliance (NHTSA).
Our external School Improvement Partner visits each school on a termly basis to quality assure our Senior Leadership Teams’ judgements relating to key areas of our work, namely: the quality of teaching, learning and assessment, the quality of the school’s leadership and management and the quality of our pupils’ personal development, behaviour and welfare. Our external School Improvement Partner works in close partnership with our own Executive Head Teacher for School Improvement, Mr P Powell.
Our partnership with the NHTSA is a partnership that was sought in order to further develop leadership and management at all levels; thus ensuring that teaching and learning is accurately evaluated, leading to better outcomes for all children within our care.
Our Trust is currently in a period of transition in moving away from our initial diamond emblem. The original emblem included our three, initial schools, whereas our new design is a modern emblem which, although keeping the woodland theme, changed the main colour to racing green as well as updating the Trust motif. The new motif demonstrates the Trust branching out beyond the original diamond to demonstrate the Trust’s expansion.
If at any time you would like to comment upon your child’s school then please log onto www.parentview.ofsted.gov.uk. Alternatively, each school runs a parent questionnaire every October with the aim of giving parents the opportunity to comment upon our performance so far and to suggest ideas for further improvement. However, if you are a prospective parent, and do not have a child within our Trust, then please pop into one of our school’s front offices for a chat and to collect a prospectus.
If you have any queries in relation to the extended services part of our provision, through breakfast and after school clubs or through pre-school provision, then please do not hesitate to contact our Extended Services Manager, Mr Teresa Blackman email@example.com
In conclusion, we aim to be the best, and to provide the best, for your child!
National Leader of Education
The Executive Principal and staff within the Woodland Academy Trust have been part of the school to school support programme which assists schools to improve.
Angela Barry, Executive Principal of our Trust, is one of a growing number of Executive Principals and CEOs selected from across the country for a role in driving school improvement as a National Leader of Education (NLE). NLEs use their success and professionalism as school leaders, along with the staff in their schools to provide additional leadership and tailor-made support to schools.
Mrs Barry feels that “Being an NLE has facilitated the opportunity to work with a range of schools in difficult circumstances. Ultimately, our goal is to share good practice in order to improve the life chances of children. Children must be at the heart of all we do.”
